Overview
The MASc in Geological Engineering brings together geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology and geology, preparing graduates to work on practical problems at the interface between engineering and the earth environment. The degree requires graduate coursework together with a supervised research thesis, and candidates typically take between two and three years to finish. Faculty research covers landslides, debris flows, runout analysis and hazard assessment; groundwater hydrology, contamination and remediation, reactive transport modelling and environmental geochemistry; and rock mechanics, open pit and underground mine design and tunnelling, with further work in environmental geology, economic geology and applied geophysics. UBC positions its graduates as engineers with a stronger grounding in geological processes than a conventional civil engineering training provides.

Admission Requirements: Admission is administered by UBC's Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS) under its published requirements for this master's program. FGPS's minimum admission average is in the B+ range (76 per cent), and this program's page states no higher academic minimum, though meeting it does not guarantee admission in a competitive process.
