Overview
The Master of International Forestry is a one-year, course-based professional degree at UBC that concentrates on the social, environmental and economic dimensions of forest change and natural-resource management around the world. Students spend roughly eight months in full-time coursework on the Vancouver campus, working through topics such as the relationship between societies and forests, Indigenous forestry, how forest products and services are valued, landscape-scale change, forest governance, international environmental agreements and the making of sustainability policy. The remaining two to four months are given over to an internship or a guided study; past placements have taken students to Italy, Kenya, Malawi, Nicaragua, Thailand and locations across North America. The degree suits graduates with a science or social-science background and some grounding in resource conservation who are aiming at international agencies and secretariats, finance institutions, government ministries, environmental NGOs, forest-products companies or consultancies.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Master of International Forestry requires a bachelor's degree in a related field with an academic background in science, social science or a related discipline, adequate grounding in natural resource conservation and management, together with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies' general minimum academic average, the B+ range (76% at UBC). International applicants whose prior education was not delivered in English must meet UBC's graduate English requirement, tested within 24 months of submission: IELTS Academic overall 7.0 with every component at least 6.5; TOEFL overall 5.0 with Reading at 4.5, Writing and Listening at 5.0 and Speaking at 4.0; or Duolingo English Test overall 130 with Reading 125, Writing 140, Speaking 125 and Listening 125. The application requires three references, transcripts from all post-secondary study and a statement of interest; the GRE is not required, and Permanent Residents must provide a clear photocopy of both sides of their PR card. This is a course-based program with no thesis supervision needed. For the September 2027 intake, applications open August 7, 2026 and close February 1, 2027, with transcripts due February 1, 2027 and referee submissions due February 10, 2027.

Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027.
