Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Forest Sciences is about scientific principles related to forests, forest organisms, and plant and animal ecology. Your learning will be based on the principle that forests are complex ecosystems made up of thousands of living organisms and non-living components, and that our use of one part of the forest ecosystem can impact all of the others. You’ll improve your understanding of forest wildlife, fires, insects, diseases, soil, tree genetics, and forest regeneration. Additionally, you'll complete hands-on lab work and take part in a field school. After graduation, you'll be prepared for careers such as forest geneticist, biodiversity specialist, fisheries and wildlife officer, forest ecologist, pathologist, or entomologist.

Admission Requirements: The program page sets subject prerequisites without a numeric entry average. Required: Pre-Calculus 12 (or IB Math Analysis and Approaches SL/HL, or IB Math Applications and Interpretations HL), Grade 11 or equivalent Chemistry, and Grade 11 Biology; one of IB Biology, IB Chemistry, or IB Physics is required for IB applicants, with Physics 11 strongly recommended for the Wood Products or Harvest Planning and Engineering majors. IB Diploma applicants need at least three Higher Level courses. Domestic Canadian secondary-school applicants otherwise need graduation from a recognised secondary school with at least six Grade 12-level academic courses, including English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12; UBC assesses the overall Grade 11/12 academic average and publishes no institution-wide cut-off, since each program is competitive against its own applicant pool. English-language competency is required: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 90 overall (Reading 22, Listening 22, Writing 21, Speaking 21); PTE Academic 65 overall; or Duolingo English Test 125 overall.
