Program details

Overview

The Faculty of Forestry's micro-certificate runs as a flexible eight-week online program, building a grounding in the core concepts, tools and skills behind forest management planning, used to weigh up and compare different forest management options and how these options affect a broad range of forest ecosystem services, and how forest management plans are then developed.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This UBC Forestry online micro-certificate is intended for participants with a background in forestry and at least two years of university education or equivalent experience. It is aimed at those working toward becoming a professional forester, and at professionals in the private, public, or non-profit sectors whose work involves planning of forested landscapes, natural resources, and sustainable forest management, including forest professionals registered with, or interested in registering with, Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), and people continuing their forest-management-and-planning education in BC at a professional level. No GPA, specific prior course, or English-language test score is published; the standard 4-course, 8-week, roughly 60-hour structure applies once registered.

Application Details

Start Date: February
Application Deadline: Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
