Overview
The MSc in Medical Physics at UBC Okanagan trains physicists to apply the concepts and methods of their discipline to problems in medicine and health, with research centred chiefly on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) and is delivered over 24 months on the Kelowna campus, combining 33 credits of coursework with a 12-credit thesis. Research is carried out in partnership with the BC Cancer Agency, and supervisors' interests include radiation oncology, medical imaging, brachytherapy, radiation dosimetry and quality assurance. Applicants are not required to name a supervisor when they apply. The department describes its setting as collegial and close-knit, and students who perform exceptionally may transfer into the PhD after their first year with the approval of the graduate program advisory committee. Graduates are positioned for clinical service and consultation, research and development, teaching or doctoral research.

Admission Requirements: The Medical Physics graduate program's own admission page (UBC Okanagan) sets a minimum average of B+ (76%) or better in third- or fourth-year classes for its MSc, and requires the academic equivalent of a four-year Honours BSc from UBC in physics or a related field; no named supervisor is required at the application stage. Applicants who do not meet the stated average may still be considered where they show significant formal training and relevant professional experience, on recommendation of the program committee. Non-native English speakers from institutions outside Canada must submit an accepted English-language test, though the program page does not itself publish the score thresholds and instead points applicants to UBC's general acceptable-tests list. Required materials are an online application and fee, unofficial transcripts (official ones only if admitted), a CV or resume, and three reference forms or letters. The September intake deadline is December 1, with applicants advised to start roughly two months in advance.
