Program details

Overview

The Faculty of Forestry delivers this micro-certificate as a flexible eight-week online program open to insurance companies, fire-services personnel, engineers, architects, authorities having jurisdiction, and forest-product professionals, giving each group a way to extend their professional credentials around fire-safety issues in timber construction. It works to help all these stakeholders understand the different constraints and opportunities that come with fire safety in taller timber buildings.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This UBC Forestry online micro-certificate is open to public- and private-sector professionals whose work contributes to the design of timber buildings or wood products for the built environment, and who have a demonstrated interest in professional training on fire-safety and fire-protection engineering requirements for designing, implementing, or marketing products in the timber-built environment. It is aimed at professionals and practitioners wanting to understand the science behind fire safety in timber construction, including forest-product professionals, architects, engineers, fire-services personnel, authorities having jurisdiction, and insurance companies. No GPA, prior course, or English-language test score is published for admission; enrolment is by online registration for the whole 4-course, 8-week program or by individual course.
