Overview
With the Construction for Energy-Efficient Buildings Micro-credential, your first module will cover the technical, economic, and policy elements of Passive House, and teach you how to apply Passive House principles in the context of building physics, windows and mechanical systems. Principles will reinforced through the use of domestic and international case studies. Next, you will learn how to use the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) energy modeling software and will model a sample Canadian project. You will be able to assess energy demand throughout the year and how to optimize the design for energy efficiency. Lastly, you will prepare to take the internationally recognized Passive House Designer/Consultant examination, by reviewing the previous course topics and completing design exercises and sample test questions.

Admission Requirements: Camosun's Prerequisites section for this Construction for Energy-Efficient Buildings micro-credential asks applicants to already be able to read blueprints and have a basic understanding of construction terminology, since the course uses mathematical formulas throughout its modules on insulation, airtightness, thermal bridging, windows, ventilation, heating, and Passive House design. No English-language proficiency score, minimum grade average, portfolio, interview, or age requirement is published. To pass, students must achieve an overall grade of 70%, which earns a Camosun micro-credential certificate. Successful completion prepares, but does not itself qualify, students to sit the separate, internationally recognized Certified Passive House Designer/Consultant exam administered by the Passive House Institute; that exam needs its own registration, a valid PHPP registration number, and separate fees, and is not included in this micro-credential.

Limited-enrolment programmes publish only an opening date and can close once the waitlist exceeds the seats on offer. International applicants must submit a complete application by 1 June (Fall), 1 October (Winter) or 1 February (Summer), though later applications are still reviewed while seats remain, making admission effectively rolling for both groups once the early deadlines pass. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
