At Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Canada, Nursing: Bachelor of Science Degree (BScN) is offered as a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences programme. The programme runs for 4 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 875 per credit (CAD 162 per credit for local students).
The nursing degree builds technical knowledge, human understanding and practical skills needed to deliver responsible, client-centered care as a registered nurse across institutional, community and international health care practice settings, and with people facing a range of health concerns. Graduates of the program gain eligibility to sit the National Council Licensure Examination, and after passing it, apply for registration with BC's College of Nurses and Midwives in order to practice as a Registered Nurse.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Selective admission — TRU ranks qualified applicants, so meeting the minimums does not secure a seat. TWO ENTRY ROUTES. High-school route (you have graduated, or present university-preparatory or adult basic education coursework, or hold up to 11 post-secondary credits whose GPA is not counted): Grade 12 or equivalent, or mature-student status; English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at 73% or better; Foundations of Math 12 or Pre-calculus 12 at 73% or better; Anatomy and Physiology 12 at 73% or better; Chemistry 11 at 73% or better; and one further Grade 11 or 12 science at 73% or better. Your admission GPA is calculated from those five courses and used for ranking. Post-secondary route (12 or more post-secondary credits): Grade 12 or equivalent, or mature-student status; an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher across up to your last 30 credits; and 12 credits made up of a 1000-level or higher English course, a 1000-level or higher biology course, a 1000-level or higher social science course and a 1000-level or higher math or science course, each at C+ minimum. All four are required, and where you have more than 30 credits the most recent 30 are used for GPA and ranking. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: every applicant sits Casper, an online situational judgment test of non-cognitive skills and interpersonal characteristics, on one of the dates TRU publishes for that intake. DOCUMENTS: an official Ministry of Education final high-school transcript and official post-secondary transcripts where applicable; current high-school students send an official Grade 11 transcript plus a certified interim Grade 12 transcript showing courses in progress. TRU students need not submit a TRU transcript. SELECTION: the BScN Selection Committee assesses academic performance alongside work history and health-care experience; TRU Admissions notifies reviewed applicants in April whether they are accepted, wait-listed or not accepted, and acceptance stays conditional until every document is received. TRU's nursing pages publish one set of academic requirements rather than separate domestic and international ones; applicants schooled outside English must also meet TRU's international English-language minimums.
Application Details
Start Date:September (Fall) intake only.
Application Deadline:Program-specific deadline that replaces TRU's general date: 31 January for the following September intake, listed both on TRU's undergraduate deadline table and on the School of Nursing's own pages. Admission is selective, so meeting the minimum does not secure a seat: applicants must also sit the Casper situational judgment test by the test date TRU publishes for that intake, which falls before the application deadline, and TRU Admissions notifies reviewed applicants in April whether they are accepted, wait-listed or not accepted. TRU publishes this one date rather than separate domestic and international dates.
