Thompson Rivers University offers Polysomnography Certificate, a certificate in Health Sciences programme in Kamloops, Canada. The programme runs for 1 year, delivered fully online. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 515 per credit (CAD 216 per credit for local students).
Polysomnography technologists carry out overnight sleep assessments used to diagnose a range of sleep disorders. The certificate consists of three theory courses completed at a distance, followed by a two-week clinical placement at a board-approved sleep facility, located in BC or elsewhere in Canada. Clinical placement availability may limit program capacity. Graduates become eligible, via the Pathway 3 route, to sit the Certified Polysomnographic Technician exam. The CPSGT credential is an entry-level certification for those new to the sleep field, and it is time-limited, requiring the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist credential to be earned within three years or the CPSGT designation is lost.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Open admission — there is no competitive selection — but three conditions apply. A diploma in a health profession or an equivalent is strongly recommended; TRU notes that some employers, particularly hospitals, hire only respiratory therapists for sleep-technologist posts, and that patient-care or high-technology clinical experience such as radiography is a good fit. You must consent to a criminal record check. And you must meet the residency requirement of a minimum of six TRU credits, taken by distance or on campus. TWO THINGS TO PLAN FOR BEFORE YOU ENROL: TRU advises completing an informational interview with a sleep clinic in your area first, because employment prospects vary by region; and travel to Kelowna for two weeks is currently mandatory for the clinical practicum, though other sites may be considered where TRU has an educational agreement in place. On completing the four courses you receive a certificate and become eligible to write the Certified Polysomnographic Technician exam under the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists' Pathway 3.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply directly to TRU: for the September (Fall) intake the deadline is 1 May, for January (Winter) it is 1 September, and for the May (Summer) intake it is 1 January; applications for most programs open 1 October, and a deadline falling on a weekend or statutory holiday moves to the next working day. International applicants follow the same intake structure with deadlines of 1 May (September), 1 October (January) and 1 February (May); TRU still reviews later applications where space remains, though high-volume programs can close early, so admission runs on a rolling basis around these published cut-offs for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
