Overview
The Certificate of Theological Studies is a one-year graduate-level program for students who already hold an undergraduate degree. It requires 30 semester hours of coursework plus 4 semester hours of field work and mentoring, for a total of 34 semester hours completed over the Fall and Winter semesters. Coursework spans Scripture and Interpretation (Biblical Hermeneutics, New Testament and Old Testament Biblical Theology, Graduate Research and Writing), Theology and History (Christian Foundations, Church History, and one Systematic Theology course), and Ministry and Spiritual Formation (an elective, Missions, and Spirituality). Students also complete supervised field work and take part in a weekly mentoring group each semester. The certificate can be completed as a standalone credential or used as the foundation year for the Seminary's Master of Divinity or Master of Theological Studies degrees.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require a bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.Sc.) from a recognized college to qualify for admission to the Certificate of Theological Studies. All applicants must show evidence of Christian conversion, a general knowledge of the Word of God, and sufficient experience in Christian work to indicate an aptitude for such work. Applicants whose undergraduate degree did not include biblical studies must have at least 30 credit hours in the humanities and/or science, with any shortfall completed alongside the program. Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency through TOEFL (minimum 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 79 internet-based) or IELTS (minimum 6.5).
