Program details

Overview

This Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Performance: Acting trains students in acting techniques for theatre and screen, with instruction in voice, movement, stage combat and intimacy direction across theatrical acting, performance creation and film acting. The program is full-time over four years, with roughly three-quarters of class time spent in studio work and rehearsal, taught by industry professionals and including live production work. Admission follows a Grades-Plus process: alongside academic requirements, applicants submit a recent photograph and an audition consisting of two monologues and a short video, followed by a callback audition for selected applicants, together with a non-refundable assessment fee. The program suits students seeking a conservatory-style, studio-intensive route into professional acting for stage and screen, with graduates typically moving into performance, theatre and film work, rather than students looking for a broader theatre studies or production-focused degree.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: This is a Grades-Plus program. Academic entry requires the OSSD with six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred) at a minimum of 70%, and an overall average of at least 70% to be considered; the effective admitting average has historically run 70-75%, fluctuating yearly with application volume. Non-academic requirements, due February 1 or within 10 business days of applying, include a recent 8x10 photograph, an audition submission of two monologues (one poetic, one contemporary, each up to two minutes) plus a one-minute personal video, and a $50 CAD assessment fee; shortlisted applicants attend a callback audition, in person or online, between February and April. Applicants without Ontario schooling may be considered with the recognised equivalent, at TMU's discretion.
