Overview
Toronto Metropolitan University's Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Health is administered within the Faculty of Community Services and delivered through the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing. The program trains graduates for research, policy and practice roles addressing the health of populations living in urban centres, with a curriculum structured around interdisciplinary collaboration across health and social science fields. Students complete doctoral coursework and original research culminating in a dissertation that generates evidence intended to inform responsive solutions to urban health problems affecting diverse populations. First offered in Winter 2021, the program draws on faculty from nursing and related health disciplines and is designed for candidates who already hold a relevant master's degree, such as in nursing, public health, or a related health or social science field. Graduates pursue careers in academic research, health policy, and leadership roles within urban health systems and community health organizations.
