Geographic Information Systems: Certificate

The Geographic Information Systems Certificate teaches students to use digital mapping and spatial-analysis technology to study geographic phenomena, including earthquakes, hurricanes, climate change, wildlife habitat, natural resources, agriculture, and rural and urban environments. Coursework develops skills in geospatial data analysis and the use of GIS software, applying spatial analysis to environmental issues and humanitarian crises. The certificate is offered through Trinity Western University's Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and is related to the Geography and Environment and Social Studies programs. It is designed to be added to an existing TWU degree rather than completed as a stand-alone credential, giving students in related fields a technical skill set in geospatial analysis alongside their main program of study. Faculty in the certificate are drawn from the Department of Geography and Environment, and the coursework is intended to complement fields such as environmental science, urban planning, and resource management with practical mapping and spatial-data skills.
