Program details

Overview

The Master of Science in Computer Science is a thesis-based graduate program offered at the Moncton campus, completed full-time in two years (24 months) or part-time over up to five years. The 45-credit program is built around a 33-credit thesis, a 3-credit research methodology course, a 3-credit directed studies course, and at least 6 credits of electives. Students must secure a thesis supervisor by their second session and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.70 throughout the program. Research is oriented around four applied areas of computer science: software design and development, knowledge-based systems, communication systems and networks, and information management systems. Admission requires a bachelor's degree with a specialization or major in computer science (with a related minor where applicable), meeting the average specified in the university's graduate regulations, along with functional knowledge of English; an interview may be required. The program suits students seeking to conduct original, supervised research in computer science and contribute new work within one of the four listed specialization areas, as preparation for doctoral study or research-oriented careers.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires satisfying the general graduate admission conditions (University Regulation 22.1) and holding either a bachelor's degree with a specialization in computer science, or a bachelor's degree with a computer science major combined with a relevant minor meeting the average required by Regulation 22.1 (applicants with the major/minor combination may be required to take additional preparatory courses). Applicants must demonstrate functional knowledge of English. An interview, in person or remote, may be required, particularly where an application does not fully meet the specific admission criteria.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Canadian and permanent-resident applicants apply directly to Université de Moncton by recurring annual deadlines that carry no published calendar year: 31 August for autumn-term entry and 5 January for winter-term entry, with the Baccalauréat en science infirmière (Nursing) and Baccalauréat en design intérieur due 1 February, and the 16-month Baccalauréat en éducation due 1 February at the Moncton campus or 30 June at Shippagan/Edmundston. International applicants must apply by 31 May for autumn entry and 30 September for winter entry, with the 16-month Baccalauréat en éducation due 1 February at Moncton or 31 May at Shippagan/Edmundston. Applications received after these dates are automatically deferred to the following session, and Université de Moncton may close applications earlier if volume is high, so admission is firm rather than rolling. The admissions page's only calendar-year reference is to the Automne 2026 term already under way (registration closes 4 September 2026, classes begin 9 September 2026), which places the source's current context in the 2026-27 academic year; the next occurrences of the recurring deadlines above therefore fall in Hiver 2027 and Automne 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
