The Doctorat en musique is a 90-credit research doctorate in the Faculte de musique at Universite de Montreal, in which students undertake advanced research on musical topics under the direction of a faculty supervisor, culminating in a dissertation or, for the coursework-based track, a thesis equivalent supported by directed coursework. The program is offered full-time or part-time, with courses available during the day and evening, and instruction is in French. Admission requires a diploma from a relevant master's-level program, and candidates must submit a letter of intent, a curriculum vitae, a five-page research proposal with bibliography, and either a copy of their master's thesis or two directed research papers completed at the master's level. Admission is conditional on a faculty member agreeing to supervise the candidate's research.
