Overview

Université de Saint-Boniface's Certificat d'aide en soins de santé is a five-month certificate, offered from September to January, that trains students to support the physical, emotional, and social needs of vulnerable people in a high-demand healthcare role. The program spans ten modules totalling 315 hours of theoretical and technical instruction plus 240 hours of practical placement. Students build competencies in daily care such as mobility, dressing, meals, and hygiene, along with extended care, home care, gerontology, cultural diversity, interpersonal relations, and workplace safety. Theoretical courses are delivered in a hybrid, bimodal format for students outside Winnipeg, combined with a mandatory five-day technical laboratory component held on campus in November. Graduates receive the certificate along with CPR Level C and provincial violence-prevention certification. It suits students who want a fast-track, hands-on route into a caregiving role supporting seniors and vulnerable populations in Manitoba's healthcare and long-term care sectors.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Canadian citizens and permanent residents need a Manitoba secondary school diploma (or an accepted equivalent from another Canadian province or territory) and successful completion of French 40S or 40G and English 40S. Applicants educated outside Canada need the equivalent of a Manitoba secondary diploma from their country of origin and must meet both the French and English language requirements. Although instruction is in French, intermediate-to-advanced English is required for practicum placements and Manitoba employment: applicants must either have passed English 40S in a Manitoba secondary school or present a standardized English test score of IELTS Academic 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 60–78, with results no more than two years old.
