The PhD in Biology is a 90-credit doctoral programme focused on the acquisition and deepening of disciplinary knowledge in biology through original research. Students develop advanced research skills and scientific reasoning under the supervision of a thesis director, working to advance knowledge in their chosen area of biology. Most of the 90 credits are earned through directed research activities, culminating in a written doctoral thesis that is evaluated by an examination committee before the degree is conferred. The programme is delivered in person and admits students in the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms, giving flexibility in when a doctoral research project can begin. It is intended for candidates who already hold a research-oriented master's degree in biology or a related discipline and wish to pursue an academic or research career in the life sciences.
