Overview

This certificate gives practising health and social-service professionals a theoretical foundation to strengthen their work with individuals, families and groups facing mental-health difficulties in institutional and community settings. Delivered part-time only on the Trois-Rivieres campus over 30 credits, coursework addresses mental-health concepts, intervention approaches and institutional and community practice, building on students' existing clinical or social-service background. Admission follows three routes: a Quebec college diploma (DEC) in social work techniques, specialised education techniques or nursing (or equivalent) plus at least one year of relevant experience in a recognised mental-health organisation; a minimum of 60 completed university credits, mostly relevant to health or mental disorders, plus one year of relevant experience; or, for the experience-based route, a minimum age of twenty-one with appropriate knowledge and at least three years of relevant work experience. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae and an employment attestation confirming their experience. Admission is offered in the fall, winter and summer terms, and the programme is not open to international applicants.
