This individualized 90-credit Ph.D. is a custom doctorate that lets a student pursue an original, coherent training plan for a specific need that no standard UQTR program addresses, in cases where the university has the resources and capacity to support it. Two research streams are available: machine learning and activity recognition, and a further automated-recognition specialization. Mandatory coursework totals 9 credits, including a comprehensive doctoral examination and a course in logic, computing, and cognitive science, with the remaining 81 credits devoted to original doctoral research. Admission requires holding a master's degree, or an equivalent diploma, obtained with a minimum average of 3.2 out of 4.3, along with satisfactory written and spoken knowledge of French; candidates must also have their choice of research supervisor and thesis topic approved. The program is offered full-time only at the Trois-Rivieres campus, with admission in the winter term, and is not subject to an enrolment quota.
