Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering is a research-based program covering the theory and application of electrical and computer engineering, offered through the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering under the University of Toronto's School of Graduate Studies. Students carry out original research under the supervision of one or more faculty members, complete relevant coursework, and must pass a qualifying examination before advancing to the dissertation stage. Admission normally requires a Master's degree with a minimum B+ average; a direct-entry option from a bachelor's degree is available to applicants with a minimum A-minus average, and no standardized admissions tests are required. Students are expected to complete their research and coursework within a 48-month period. The program prepares graduates for careers in academic research, industrial research and development, and advanced technical roles across the many subfields of electrical and computer engineering, and leads to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
