Overview
The Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.) at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières is Quebec's and the francophone world's first program of its kind, delivered full-time on the Trois-Rivières campus. It prepares students for autonomous practice as podiatrists able to assess, treat, and help prevent conditions affecting the foot. The curriculum combines biomedical science coursework in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pathology with clinical training in patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, along with instruction in surgical techniques for foot conditions, orthotic prescription and fabrication, pharmacology, and interprofessional collaboration. Clinical components include practicum placements in university clinics, private practices, and affiliated hospitals, with the final year built around internship and externship rotations and a capstone research or scholarly project. The program suits students drawn to biomedical science and hands-on clinical and surgical work, who are aiming toward independent practice as podiatric physicians.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine runs through UQTR's per-program application. Quebec DEC holders qualify via a DEC in Sciences, Letters and Arts; a DEC in Natural Sciences completing Biology (101-SNU) and Chemistry (202-SNU); a DEC in physical rehabilitation or physiotherapy techniques with the required Chemistry and Mathematics; or any other DEC completing the required Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics courses. University-route applicants need at least 12 relevant university credits plus one of the above collegial course sets. As with all UQTR bachelor's and professional programs, candidates must meet the university's French-language admission requirement, using a recognized test such as UQTR's own TIFEI for international applicants (French nationals with a baccalaureat are exempt). Selection is a two-stage process: an academic-file pre-selection (100%) followed by an individual interview assessing motivation and personal suitability for podiatry (100%); missing the interview without prior arrangement disqualifies the file. Places are reserved for Canadian citizens or permanent residents domiciled in Quebec, so international students are not eligible. The program is capped at 25 places and the application deadline is March 1.
