Overview
SFU's MD program will educate medical students in communities, preparing graduates to address the primary care needs of B.C.’s diverse populations and communities. The curriculum has been created, and will be delivered primarily by family physicians and other generalists, with additional perspectives provided by specialist physicians, primary care providers, researchers, Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers. This approach ensures the curriculum stays locally relevant and authentically addresses the health-care challenges and needs of the communities where students learn

Admission Requirements: Applicants must have completed a four-year undergraduate bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, with at least 90 units completed by the time they apply. The Open Stream requires BC, Nunavut, Yukon or Northwest Territories residency, verified through current enrolment in the relevant provincial or territorial health insurance plan; a separate Indigenous Stream exists with its own documentation requirements. All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Selection includes Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) as part of the non-academic assessment. Applicants whose bachelor's degree was taught and examined in English meet the program's English-language requirement automatically; others must submit TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL, PTE, Cambridge or Duolingo results meeting SFU Medicine's published minimums, valid for two years from the test date.
