PhD in Engineering is a doctorate in General Engineering programme offered by Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Rouyn-Noranda, Canada. The programme is delivered on campus. It carries 90.0 credits. Tuition for international students is CAD 639 per credit (CAD 104 per credit for local students).
This doctoral program in engineering at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue trains researchers to address complex industrial problems and contribute original knowledge to the engineering field, preparing graduates for careers in advanced research, industry innovation, and university teaching. Students pursue faculty-supervised research within specialization areas that include wireless telecommunications, electrical networks, renewable energy, biocomposites and nanocomposites, material forming, finite element modeling, fluid-structure interaction, mechanical systems analysis, computer-aided design and manufacturing, and the electromagnetic treatment of wood products. The program is delivered on campus, with study possible at the university's Rouyn-Noranda, Val-d'Or, or Abitibi-Ouest locations, and gives students access to specialized laboratories and analytical equipment tied to their research area. It suits candidates who already hold a relevant master's degree and are seeking to develop independent research capability leading to a doctorate, whether aiming for careers in mechanical or electrical engineering research, industrial R&D, or academic positions. The program is oriented toward students prepared for a sustained, thesis-driven course of study rather than coursework-based learning alone.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.20 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Standard entry requires a master's degree (professional or research M.Sc.A.) in engineering or a related field obtained with a cumulative average of 3.2/4.3, reviewed by an admission committee; candidates with a master's average between 2.8/4.3 and 3.19/4.3 who show adequate prior knowledge, training and relevant experience may still be reviewed and admitted conditionally on passing one or two preparatory courses. Candidates schooled outside Québec need at least 18 years of prior schooling with a cumulative average of at least 12/20 (or, exceptionally, 10-12/20 with committee review and possible preparatory courses). Under a preparation-adequacy base, a bachelor's degree holder with at least five years of relevant experience and a first-author publication in an impact-factor journal may also be reviewed. A candidacy file (CV, official transcripts, and a supervising professor's confirmation) is required for every base, and instruction is entirely in French per the institution's admission requirements; the programme page sets no separate language test.
Application Details
Start Date:September, January and May
Application Deadline:UQAT's admission page states only that online applications open each term - September for Fall, 1 March for Winter and June for Summer - without giving a closing date for any of its bachelor's programmes (Mining Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Digital/3D/Video Game Creation, Social Work). No separate international deadline, and no programme-specific deadline for engineering or digital-creation programmes, is published on the general admission, international-student, or engineering-school pages; UQAT directs both domestic and international applicants to contact the registrar or the relevant program office for exact timing. The university does not describe its admission as rolling in these terms, but no fixed closing date for the 2026-2027 cycle appears anywhere checked. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
