Overview
The Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Classics is offered by the Faculty of Arts and covers the history, literature, and material culture of the Ancient Mediterranean world, including Greek and Roman history, art and architecture, archaeology, science and technology, mythology and religion, philosophy, and women's studies. The department offers Ancient Greek and Latin language instruction at all levels, together with field school opportunities. Classics can also be taken as a major within the standard Bachelor of Arts; the Honours track adds a higher standard of academic performance and a research-focused component, including an honours essay, with closer mentorship from faculty and upper-year peers as preparation for graduate study. As with other Arts Honours programs, students work within a smaller cohort of academically focused peers with closer access to departmental and faculty support. Graduates of the program pursue careers such as archaeologist, editor, journalist, lawyer, librarian, and writer.

Admission Requirements: Direct-entry applicants from high school are admitted to the BA Honors Foundation Year, which requires a minimum application average of 85% on the five required admission subjects. Students declare Classics as their Honors major by the end of first year, having completed a minimum of 24 units of course weight. Students transferring in from postsecondary studies need a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0, with an average of 3.3 or better in their Honors subject courses; competitive AGPA for admission varies by field of study from 3.0 to 3.3. All applicants must also meet the university's English language proficiency requirement.
