Overview
The Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Psychology at the University of Alberta is an honors stream studying how people think, feel, and behave. Coursework spans infant, childhood, and adolescent development, aging and memory, and language, speech, and culture, among other topics in the discipline. As an Honors program, it is designed for academically focused students who work closely with faculty, take part in research projects, and prepare for graduate study while completing their undergraduate degree. Admission is non-direct: students first complete the BA Honors Foundation Year, then apply to declare Psychology as an Honors major, typically by the end of their first year of study; applicants to the Psychology major should also present one of Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2. Honors students in the Faculty of Arts receive mentorship from upper-year peers and access to specialized departmental supports. Psychology can also be taken as a non-Honors major within the general Bachelor of Arts degree.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the BA Honors program in Psychology is non-direct entry: applicants first complete the BA Honors Foundation Year, and direct-entry high school applicants to that Foundation Year require a minimum application average of 85% across the five required admission subjects. During the Foundation Year (minimum 24 units of transferable coursework), students submit an online Program Selection Form indicating their preferred Honors major; for a major or minor in Psychology, students should also present one of Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2. Selection into the Psychology major requires a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 3.0, with an average of 3.3 or better in Honors subject courses; the competitive AGPA varies by field of study, typically between 3.0 and 3.3. All applicants must meet the university's English language proficiency requirement. The Fall application deadline is March 1 for both domestic and international applicants.
