Admission Requirements: The Master of Nursing, including the Master of Nursing/Nurse Practitioner pathway, requires an undergraduate nursing degree, normally four years in duration, and a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 on the University of Alberta's 4-point scale calculated over the last 60 units of graded coursework. All applicants must have completed an undergraduate course in statistics and one in research methods or evidence-informed practice with a minimum grade of B, preferably within the past six years; the Nurse Practitioner pathway additionally requires current Canadian Registered Nurse licensure and 4,500 hours of RN practice. English Language Proficiency, waived for applicants currently licensed as an RN with a Canadian nursing regulator, otherwise requires IELTS Academic 7.0 overall (Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 7.0, Speaking 7.0), TOEFL iBT 5.0 overall on the revised scale (Listening 5, Reading 4.5, Writing 5, Speaking 4.5) for tests from 21 January 2026, or Duolingo English Test 130 overall with no subscore below 120.
