Overview

The Master of Science in Renewable Resources is a thesis-based graduate program offered by the Department of Renewable Resources in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta, delivered on campus. Research falls within five major themes: conservation biology, forest ecology and management, agriculture and the environment, reclamation and restoration of land and water, and environmental soil science. Approved thesis specializations include agroforestry, conservation biology, forest biology and management, land reclamation and remediation, protected areas and wildland management, soil science, water and land resources, and wildlife ecology and management. All applicants to the thesis-based program must secure a faculty member's agreement to supervise their research before admission is approved. Admission requires an appropriate undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on the 4-point scale, calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework.

Admission Requirements: Minimum admission GPA of 3.0 on the 4-point scale from an appropriate undergraduate degree, calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework or the equivalent of the last two years of full-time study. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, a Research Statement Form, and three letters of reference, and must have a faculty member agree to supervise their program before admission is approved. Where applicable, a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 90 is required for tests written before January 21, 2026, or 4.5 for tests written on or after that date, or an equivalent approved English language exam score.
