Program details

Overview

The Bachelor of Science Undeclared programme lets students at the University of Alberta's Augustana Campus begin a Bachelor of Science degree without committing to a specific science major. During the undeclared first year, students take courses across up to three prospective majors before declaring a major, typically by the end of their first year, without falling behind in their eventual programme. Augustana is a small arts-and-sciences campus in Camrose, Alberta, roughly an hour southeast of Edmonton, offering an interdisciplinary curriculum in a personalized setting with an average class size of around 22 students. The undeclared major is available under both the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Arts at Augustana. Admission is open to applicants directly from high school, who must meet course prerequisites in English, mathematics, science and an additional elective subject, as well as to transfer students, with international applicants required to demonstrate English language proficiency.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants applying directly from high school must present Alberta Grade 12 (or equivalent) courses in English Language Arts 30-1, Mathematics 30-1, and two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, Science 30, Mathematics 30-2 or Mathematics 31, plus one course from an approved list of Fine Arts, Humanities, Languages-other-than-English or other elective subjects. Requirements vary by province/territory of secondary schooling. Transfer students are assessed separately. Applicants whose primary language of instruction was not English must meet the university's English Language Proficiency policy.
