The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Earth and Planetary Sciences is a thesis-based program offered by the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences in the Faculty of Science. Students conduct original research across geology, geophysics, geochemistry, environmental change, geobiology, natural resources, natural hazards, and planetary dynamics, examining physical and chemical processes across the age of the solar system and their interaction with life and human activity. Students have access to analytical facilities including an Electron Microprobe Microanalytical Facility, an Atomic Absorption Lab, an Inductively Coupled Plasma Lab, and a Stable Isotope Laboratory. Funding comes from a combination of tuition subsidies, research stipends, teaching assistantships, and internal or external scholarships. Graduates go on to doctoral study or enter fields such as mineral or petroleum exploration and environmental or climate change consulting. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and English-language proficiency. The program admits students in both the Fall and Winter terms.
