The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Plant Science, offered by the Department of Plant Science in the Faculty of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, is a research-intensive, thesis-based program emphasizing academic writing, data collection, and research dissemination. Students can pursue a Bioinformatics option, at the intersection of biological sciences and computing, or a Neotropical Environment option focused on environmental research relevant to Latin America, with core coursework completed in Panama. Research areas include crop and vegetable production, crop physiology, genomics, horticulture, plant pathology, plant breeding, plant-insect and plant-pathogen interactions, and weed biology. Students use dedicated facilities including the Horticultural Research Centre, the Emile A. Lods Agronomy Research Centre, greenhouses, the McGill University Herbarium, a genome editing laboratory, and a plant-pest containment laboratory. The program prepares graduates for further academic study or professional research roles.
