Program details

Overview

This program studies matter and energy at all scales, from the sub-nuclear to the scale of the universe, covering mechanics, waves, electricity, magnetism, optics, thermal physics, and modern physics, with room for advanced specialization in later years. It leads to a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts & Science, or a combined degree with education or management, delivered on the Lethbridge campus with Fall and Winter intake. An optional concentration in theoretical physics is available, along with co-operative education placements, international exchange and independent-study opportunities, and an honours thesis for eligible students. It suits students interested in research and practical problem-solving across physics applications, from academic research to engineering and technology. Graduates pursue roles as physicists, researchers, educators, and medical physicists, or specialize in areas such as astrophysics, geophysics, or condensed matter physics, with the degree also supporting further graduate study.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 65.00 / %
Admission Requirements: University of Lethbridge admits this program directly from Canadian high school on the Faculty of Arts & Science's standard scale: five distinct senior-year courses, one of them a language-arts course, with a minimum blended average of 65% across all five. Two of the five courses must be mathematics: Mathematics 30-1 plus Mathematics 31 in Alberta, or Pre-Calculus 12 plus Calculus 12 in British Columbia (provincial equivalent elsewhere); Physics is strongly recommended among the remaining approved courses. Applicants without a Canadian high school credential are assessed on the same academic scale against their home-country credential equivalencies through the international admissions office (general admission requirements). Applicants whose first language is not English must meet uLethbridge's English Language Proficiency requirement, most commonly through Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 (or equivalent) with a minimum blended grade of 75%, three consecutive years of full-time secondary study in English, or an approved test: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 per band), TOEFL iBT 86 overall (min. 20 per section), Duolingo English Test 120 overall (min. 110 per subscore), PTE Academic 61 overall (min. 60 per part), CAEL 70 overall (min. 60 per component), or Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 (min. 176 per subscore).
