Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Art History, offered through the Faculty of Arts, examines visual expression ranging from traditional art forms such as painting and sculpture to contemporary and emerging media, building critical thinking skills about visual communication in relation to issues such as social justice, reconciliation, and globalization. Sample coursework includes introductory art history, Greek and Roman art and archaeology, Renaissance and Baroque art, contemporary art history, art theory, Canadian art and architecture, curatorial studies, and seminars on current issues in the field. The standard degree is a three-year, 90-credit-hour program with a minimum 2.0 GPA, including distribution requirements across humanities, social sciences, sciences, written English, mathematics, and Indigenous course content, plus coursework across five different subject fields; an 18-credit-hour minor in another subject can be added. The program can be completed full-time or part-time at the Fort Garry campus. No co-op placement or thesis component is described. The program is described as particularly suited to students planning to seek employment or enter a professional academic program directly after graduation, offering a broad grounding in visual culture and critical analysis.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Admission is first to the Faculty of Arts general B.A. program, not directly to a subject major. Direct Entry from high school requires Manitoba high school graduation with five full Grade 12 credits (S, G, or U) and a minimum 70% average over English 40S, Mathematics 40S, and two more academic 40S courses, with no less than 60% in each. Advanced Entry (transfer, 24+ credit hours) requires a minimum cumulative or adjusted GPA of 2.00 (or, under the Dean's Recommendation pathway, a 2.00 GPA on the best 24 transferable credit hours). Once admitted, a student may declare a Art History Major (30 credit hours) or Minor (18 credit hours) once its prerequisite is satisfied; the Faculty's rule for entry into any Major or Minor is a grade of C or better in the prerequisite course(s) for Art History.

No Fall 2027 Direct Entry deadline has been published yet, so specific 2027 dates cannot be stated for the university's main intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
