Program details

Overview

This Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences covers life from molecular and cellular processes to ecological interactions, including gene regulation, development, microscopy, evolution, environmental physiology, animal behaviour, food web dynamics, invertebrate biology, and population ecology, with specialization areas in ecology and environmental biology, integrative biology, cell/molecular/developmental biology, environmental and integrative physiology, evolution and biodiversity, and genetics. The degree is offered as a Major (minimum 2.00 GPA) or Honours (minimum 3.00 GPA), both around four years and available with a co-operative education option extending the program to about five years; a minor is also available. Honours requires full-time study, while the Major can be completed full-time or part-time, delivered on the Fort Garry campus. It suits students interested in living organisms across molecular to ecological scales, pointing toward research, education, conservation, industry, or graduate study, as well as professional programs such as medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, or dentistry.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Faculty of Science, Direct Entry (high school or fewer than 24 post-secondary credit hours) or Advanced Entry (24+ credit hours, minimum 2.00 Adjusted GPA). Applicants are admitted to the Faculty of Science generally and do not select Biological Sciences at entry. The Major or Honours in Biological Sciences is declared after completing a minimum of 24 credit hours (usually end of year 1-2) with specific course/grade requirements; Major requires minimum 2.00 degree GPA, Honours requires minimum 3.00 degree GPA, both over 120+ credit hours.
