Overview
The Theatre program at the University of Manitoba leads to a Bachelor of Arts, offered as General and Advanced degree options with an expected duration of three or more years and available on a full-time or part-time basis. A co-op option through the Faculty of Arts Co-operative Education Program allows students to alternate academic terms with paid employment, and practicum-style courses let students train under theatre professionals at Prairie Theatre Exchange for academic credit. Instruction takes place on the Fort Garry campus, using facilities including the John J. Conklin Theatre and the Gail Asper Performing Arts Hall, and combines theoretical study with practical training in areas such as new play development and directing. Direct-entry applicants need standard high school admission requirements, while advanced-entry applicants are those who have completed one year (24 credit hours) or more of study in another UM faculty or at another recognized post-secondary institution. The program suits students aiming for careers in professional theatre, opera, or film, as well as related fields such as education, media, and design.
Requirements

Admission Requirements: Faculty of Arts admission (applies to all BA majors; no Theatre-specific admission requirement). Direct Entry (Manitoba high school students, fewer than 24 post-secondary credit hours): minimum average of 70% over English 40S, Mathematics 40S, and two academic 40S courses, with no less than 60% in each course. Advanced Entry (24+ post-secondary credit hours): minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (C). No audition is required. Applicants enter the general BA and choose Theatre afterward; BA General requires 90 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the major, and BA Advanced requires 120 credit hours (at least 48 in Theatre) with a minimum GPA of 2.0, applied to only after completing at least 24 credit hours. Meeting these minimums does not guarantee admission.
