Overview
The Bachelor of Applied Arts is a four-year integrated degree offered by UNB Fredericton in partnership with the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD). It combines the reasoning, research, and writing skills of a traditional Bachelor of Arts education with hands-on studio art courses at NBCCD. Students complete two years of study at each institution and may begin at either UNB or NBCCD, attending in alternating years or completing one institution's requirements before moving to the other. The first year mirrors year one of UNB's standard Bachelor of Arts program, after which coursework is divided between the two schools. The combined academic and practical structure prepares graduates for further study or careers spanning media studies, the visual arts, education, and academia. Admission follows the standard Bachelor of Arts entry requirements and procedures, and students may transfer in with advanced credit through the Dean of Arts office or the program's advisors at either institution.

Admission Requirements: The programme page states applicants must meet the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree and follow the normal admission procedures, directing them to the Applied Arts entry in UNB's admission requirements tool. That tool's New Brunswick block for Applied Arts requires the overall average of Grade 12 academic (New Brunswick level 2, or the equivalent level-1, French Immersion or advanced course) university-preparatory marks in English 122/Français 10411 at a minimum grade of 60%, four further electives from Group 1, and one additional elective from Group 1, 2 or 3, for a minimum admission average of 65%; meeting the minimum does not guarantee a seat. International applicants follow the same course requirements and must also meet UNB's English-language requirement, which for Bachelor of Arts programmes at Fredericton sits at the university's higher bar rather than its general minimum: IELTS Academic 7.0 (or equivalent), TOEFL iBT 100 for tests taken before 2026 or 5.0 overall with no component below 5.0 from January 2026, Duolingo English Test 130, Pearson PTE Academic 68, CAEL 80, or Cambridge English (C1 Advanced) 190.
