Program details

Overview

The Master of Computer Science by Coursework (MCSC) is a course-based graduate degree offered by UNB Fredericton's Faculty of Computer Science for students who want advanced computer science education without a research thesis. The program requires a minimum of ten graduate and undergraduate courses and has no thesis or research report requirement. Students may optionally pursue a co-op designation by completing two graduate co-op work terms, gaining work experience alongside their coursework. The program is delivered on UNB's Fredericton campus. It suits professionals already working in the information technology industry who want to upgrade their skills and credentials, as well as students who want to explore computer science topics more deeply and learn current advanced techniques without committing to a research-based degree. The coursework-only structure distinguishes it from UNB's thesis- and report-based Master of Computer Science options, which include a research component.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in computer science or a related discipline, with a minimum GPA of B, and a formal background in software engineering, data structures, operating systems, algorithms, and computer architecture. The GRE is optional.
