Overview

The Ecosystems Field Data Collection Micro-Credential trains resource and/or forestry practitioners in the use of field skills to identify ecosystems in the field, describe and map ecological strata, identify and describe critical soil hazards and site issues. Procedures and methodologies taught will allow practitioners to classify areas, even if they are devoid of vegetation due to wildfire, or other alterations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This UNBC Continuing Studies micro-credential requires no formal academic application beyond registration. Participants must be at a grade 10 reading and writing level; prior coursework in Forest Soils, Forest Botany, Dendrology, Hydrology and Forest Ecology is suggested but not mandatory. No English-language proficiency test score is specified. Because the course runs as three consecutive online classroom days, enrolled participants must attend all three days in full, complete a case-study assignment, and score at least 70% on a final multiple-choice quiz to receive the micro-credential; a computer with webcam capability is required for online participation. No portfolio, interview, work-experience or age condition is stated.

Application Deadline: UNBC's general-entry Bachelor's programs (BA, BComm, BPl, BSc) accept domestic (Canadian/PR) applications continuously with no fixed closing date for either the September or January semester. International applicants face undated, recurring cutoffs that UNBC prints without a specific year: 11 July for September-semester entry and 8 November for January-semester entry; applying later risks missing the documentation needed to study in Canada before the semester begins.
