BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering

This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ottawa, offered in English and French, with French course options in the first and second year and most upper-level courses taught in English. The curriculum covers engineering mathematics and physics together with mechanical engineering subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, dynamics, materials science, control systems, machine design, electrical circuits, manufacturing, and vibration analysis. A cooperative education option is available, and students may complete a thesis as a technical elective. In the fourth year, students choose among four specialization streams: fluid mechanics and heat transfer, solid mechanics and design, CAD/CAM and industrial engineering, or a stream built from other technical electives, and all students complete a mechanical engineering capstone project. The program is designed for students interested in designing and developing mechanical, thermal, and biomedical systems and devices for industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, energy, and biomedical technology. It suits students who want a broad mechanical engineering foundation with the option to focus their final year around a particular technical stream, a thesis, or co-op work.
