Hons in Computer Science

This undergraduate program leads to an Honours Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Ottawa, offered in both English and French with compulsory courses available in each language. The curriculum covers computation fundamentals, data structures, algorithm design, databases, operating systems, networking, formal languages, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, security, distributed computing, and software engineering, and students complete a capstone honours project. A cooperative education option and a French Immersion Stream are both available. Students are required to take a portion of their electives outside computing and mathematics, and can choose to pair the degree with a minor or major in another field, such as Information Management Systems, or in areas like business, science, humanities, or the social sciences. The program is designed to teach students how to conceive, design, and implement software systems, preparing them to build software that is fast, reliable, scalable, and secure. It suits students who want a technically grounded computer science education with the flexibility to combine it with study in a complementary discipline, and who may want work-integrated learning through co-op.
