The Master of Communication is a coursework-based graduate degree offered by the Department of Communication in the Faculty of Arts, with an optional co-op component. The programme develops research capacity across two fields, media studies and organizational communication, training students to critically evaluate communication theories, work across different epistemological traditions, and analyze and communicate research findings to academic and professional audiences. Admission normally requires an honours bachelor's degree, or equivalent, with a specialization or major in Communication or a related discipline; applicants from other disciplines may qualify with a minor in Communication and at least two years of relevant experience, or with at least three years of relevant experience in the absence of a minor. A minimum overall admission average of 70 percent (B) is required, calculated according to graduate studies guidelines. Applicants must be proficient in English or French, the two languages of instruction, and are expected to have a passive understanding of the other. The programme is offered full-time or part-time, and full-time students are expected to complete all requirements within one year, to a maximum of four years from initial enrollment.
