Program details

Overview

This is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Systems Engineering, a four-year program delivered through the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. It addresses the production, transport, and storage of energy from both conventional sources, such as fossil fuels, and renewable sources including solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, and nuclear power. Students choose among three options — Petroleum Engineering, Sustainable Energy Engineering, and Energy Transportation and Storage — and may take courses across options. Laboratory work with dedicated equipment and other experiential activities support the coursework, and a Co-op designation lets students complete paid work terms alongside their studies. The program is pursuing Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board accreditation, expected to apply to its first graduating class in spring or summer 2026. It suits students interested in the engineering side of energy systems, whether in oil and gas, renewable power, or the infrastructure that moves and stores energy. Career paths described for graduates include drilling engineer, reservoir engineer, renewable energy project engineer, pipeline project engineer, and sustainability engineer, spanning oil and gas, renewable energy, and energy infrastructure employers.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: The energy systems engineering page has no programme-specific admission list and refers applicants to the university's general application guide, so the requirements below are the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science's own Saskatchewan high-school criteria, which apply across the faculty's undergraduate programs. Final admission needs Saskatchewan Secondary standing in English Language Arts 30, Pre-Calculus 30 or Calculus 30, Chemistry 30 and Physics 30; Grade 12 students can be admitted early-conditionally with a 70% average over five approved 20/30-level courses (English, a higher-level math or calculus course, and two more approved math, science, social-science or language courses). A 70%-89.99% average secures general admission to the program, 90% or above is needed for direct entry to a chosen major, and applicants short one final-admission subject but averaging 70% on the rest are admitted as Engineering Qualifying students. International applicants must meet English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band under 6.0), TOEFL iBT 83 (4.5 overall on the revised scale from 21 January 2026), PTE Academic 59, CAEL 60, or Duolingo 120.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants to the University of Regina apply for Fall 2027 entry with a recommended early deadline of 15 March 2027 for best course selection and a final new-applicant deadline of 15 August 2027; Winter 2027-28 entry has an early deadline of 1 November 2026 and a final deadline of 15 December 2026, and Spring/Summer 2027 entry closes 15 April 2027. International (study-permit) applicants share the same final deadlines as domestic students for each term but have no separate early deadline. Numerous named programs, including Nursing, Social Work, Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work, Indigenous Fine Arts and Indigenous Education, carry their own earlier deadlines instead of the general dates. Admission is not described as rolling; late non-competitive applications are simply carried to the next term the program accepts. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
