Program details

Overview

The Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) is delivered jointly by the University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic, with classes held in Regina and Saskatoon. The program prepares students to become entry-level registered nurses and awards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Five admission pathways are available: the standard four-year program, a four-year bilingual English/French option, a two-year After Degree Nursing Program for students who already hold a degree, a two-year Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to BScN pathway, and a two-year Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to BScN pathway. Some students can complete the four-year degree in three to three and a half years by using spring and summer intensive terms as early-exit options. The program is open to current and recent high school students, post-secondary students with at least 15 completed credit hours, licensed practical nurses and registered psychiatric nurses registered in Saskatchewan, degree holders from other fields, French-fluent students pursuing the bilingual option, and international applicants. Graduates are prepared to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and pursue registration as nurses, with the collaborative program noted for its strong exam pass rates among graduates in Saskatchewan.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN), delivered jointly by Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the University of Regina, admits Grade 12/Adult 12 graduates directly. Required courses are English Language Arts A30 and B30 (or the Français Fransaskois/Immersion equivalents), one of Foundations of Math 30, Pre-Calculus 30 or Calculus 30, Biology 30, and Chemistry 30, each with a minimum grade of 70%; admission is competitive, and the minimum overall average actually admitted has ranged from 77.4% to 87% over the past five years. Current or former University of Regina students must maintain a minimum GPA of 65%. Applicants must separately meet the program's English Language Proficiency Requirements; the university's general undergraduate proficiency-test list does not apply to Faculty of Nursing applicants, so applicants should confirm the accepted test and score directly with the program.
