Overview
The Master of Arts in Film Studies at the University of Regina is a 30-credit-hour program for advanced study in cinema and media history, theory, and methods. Students examine national and transnational cinemas, directors, and genres through contemporary critical approaches, including feminist, post-colonial, Indigenous, and queer perspectives across film and other media formats. The program combines core theory and methods courses with seminars and directed readings, and offers a professional placement course involving experiential research or a case study investigation at an arts or culture organization. Full-time study is normally completed in one year and culminates in a graduating thesis of 60 to 100 pages, written and defended before a committee. Applicants require a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Film or Media Studies, or the equivalent, and submit a thesis proposal along with scholarly writing samples and reference letters. Faculty in the Media, Art, and Performance area supervise students' research.
