The Doctor of Philosophy in Small Animal Clinical Sciences advances professional and research training in small animal medicine, surgery, and specialty disciplines within the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. Students build clinical and research expertise across areas such as ophthalmology, oncology, anesthesia, dentistry, wildlife and exotic animal medicine, surgery, and medical imaging, working within an active research environment that includes retinal disease, MRI, immune-mediated conditions, orthopedic surgery, pain control, and nutrition. Admission is available either as non-direct entry, for applicants holding a relevant master's degree, or as direct entry from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree for exceptionally strong candidates. All students work under faculty supervision within the Department, with access to the university's Veterinary Medical Centre for clinical research support. The program prepares graduates for advanced research and specialist clinical careers in companion-animal and wildlife veterinary medicine.
