Overview
The PhD in Animal Biosciences is offered through the Department of Animal Biosciences, a research-intensive department covering animal breeding and genetics, animal nutrition and metabolism, animal physiology, and animal behaviour and welfare. Students conduct original research with a faculty advisor, working with a range of animal species across these research areas. Full-time study is nominally four years (48 months), typically completed in three to four years, and is delivered in-person on the Guelph campus. Admission normally requires a completed MSc with a minimum average grade of B, along with strong letters of reference; applicants with an excellent academic record may transfer to the PhD before completing an MSc, and direct admission from a bachelor's degree is possible for applicants with an excellent academic history and strong research potential. The program admits students in the Fall, Winter and Summer terms on a rolling basis, with international applicants advised to apply at least six months before the start of the semester.
