Program details

Overview

This diploma teaches how to connect software, electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems to build smart technologies. It is self-contained, allowing graduates to enter the workplace directly, while also providing a background in math and science that can carry into a full physics degree at UFV or into an engineering qualification elsewhere. Topics covered include optics, sensors and actuators, circuit analysis, and mechanics, building a theoretical grounding in physics.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UFV's own program page sets the entrance requirements for the Engineering Physics Diploma in Mechatronics: B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent; English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (or equivalent) at C+; one of Calculus 12 at A or better, Principles of Mathematics 12 at B or better, or Pre-Calculus 12 at B or better (or, lacking these, the prerequisites for MATH 111); and Physics 12 at C or better (or, lacking it, the prerequisites for PHYS 111). International students may apply, and applicants who fall short of these standards may pursue upgrading. The page states no standardized English-language test score. The program is currently unavailable until further notice.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
