Trades - Apprenticeship in Carpentry: Apprenticeship at University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, Canada is a trades - apprenticeship in Trades programme. The programme runs for 7 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 138 per credit for local students.
This program delivers the in-school technical training for the carpentry apprenticeship, aimed at people already employed in the trade and registered with Skilled Trades BC through an employer sponsor. Training is structured across four levels, each made up of seven weeks of in-school instruction combining theory and hands-on practice, with one training block attended per year as the apprentice progresses. The curriculum prepares apprentices to write the Interprovincial Examination for the Carpentry Red Seal Endorsement, a nationally recognized qualification under the Skilled Trades BC Interprovincial Red Seal program that supports work across Canada. Applicants must already have an employer sponsor and an active Skilled Trades BC registration number; intakes are scheduled on a rolling basis according to availability. Those without current employment in the trade are directed instead to UFV's carpentry foundation pre-apprenticeship program, which can lead to advanced apprenticeship placement once a sponsoring employer is found. The program suits registered apprentices working toward Red Seal certification rather than newcomers to the trade.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UFV's Carpentry apprenticeship program page sets out no academic prerequisites, minimum grades, GPA, or English/French language test score; entry runs through employment rather than an academic file. Applicants must already be working as a carpenter under a sponsoring employer, or must first complete UFV's Carpentry Foundation pre-apprenticeship program to gain the entry-level skills needed to secure that employment. To apply, candidates submit UFV's online apprenticeship application and then supply their apprenticeship level, Skilled Trades BC registration number, and sponsor/employer details by email before being scheduled into the next available in-school training block; each of the program's four levels runs seven weeks of in-school training a year. No portfolio, interview, letter of intent, criminal record check, or immunisation requirement is described on the page.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
