Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Science, offered through the University of Toronto's Rehabilitation Sciences Institute, trains independent scientists across six fields of study: Movement Science, Occupational Science, Practice Science, Rehabilitation Health Services Studies, Rehabilitation Technology Sciences, and Social and Cognitive Rehabilitation Sciences, covering the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of human function, mobility, occupation, and well-being. Coursework totals a minimum of 2.0 full-course equivalents, including two required doctoral courses plus 0.5 full-course equivalents each in advanced research methods or statistics and thesis-related study. Candidates complete a candidacy examination with written and oral components within the first 18 months, then complete and defend a doctoral thesis. Applicants must secure their own faculty supervisor before admission. The program is delivered in person and normally takes four years of full-time study, with a maximum time limit of six years.
