Overview
In the Bachelor of Arts in Geography Degree, you'll study the interactions between people and the environment and examine the spatial nature of these relationships. This program will allow you to seek solutions to climate change, global migration and sustainability. Advanced studies focus on topics such as political, cultural, social, health, and economic geographies, as well as global migration, sustainability and resilience, urban and regional planning, activism and community-based planning, and community mapping. You have the option to get involved in community activities and mapping projects, and travel with our field schools.

Admission Requirements: UVic's direct-entry requirement for BC and Yukon high-school applicants is English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at 73% or higher plus three further approved academic Grade 12 courses, with an estimated competitive Grade 12 average of a minimum of 82% (Alberta applicants meet the equivalent through English Language Arts 30-1 at 73% or higher plus three approved 30/31 courses, and Ontario applicants through English 4U at 73% or higher plus five further 4U/4M courses, both at the same 82% estimate). The IB route needs a full diploma with at least three Higher Level subjects and English HL or SL at 3 or higher, for an estimated 28 points excluding bonus points. Transfer applicants' minimum average ranges from a C (2.00 on UVic's 9-point scale) on 12 or more recent university-transfer units up to a B (5.00) on a completed diploma. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet UVic's language-proficiency requirement, typically IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band under 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with no section under 20; meeting the minimum average never guarantees an offer.
Application Details
Start Date:September (Winter Session) entry is the main intake and the only one open to applicants still in high school. UVic also lists January and Summer starts for this program, open to applicants who have already left high school and to post-secondary transfer applicants.
Application Deadline:UVic institution-wide dates, identical for Canadian and international applicants (UVic publishes no separate international deadline). September entry: 31 January. January entry: 30 September. Summer entry: 31 March. The January and Summer intakes are for high-school graduates and transfer applicants, not for students still in high school. High-school applicants who submit grades by early December can be considered for early admission. UVic states these are annual fixed dates and warns that a program can stop accepting applications at any time without notice, while some programs keep accepting them past the published date.
