Overview
In the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Science Degree, you’ll bridge the worlds of health care, management and technology. You'll learn how to optimize health care using technology. This program will teach you what information is important to health care professionals and patients through coursework and a mandatory co-op placement.

Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants on the BC/Yukon curriculum need approved English 11, Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11, an approved science 11 and an approved social studies 11/12, then English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at 73% or higher, Foundations of Mathematics 12 or Pre-calculus 12, and two approved academic 12 courses; other provinces have equivalent lists on the program page. UVic estimates the entry average at 80% on the required grade-12 courses. International applicants: the IB route needs the full diploma with at least three Higher Level subjects, English HL or SL at 3 or better and Math HL or SL at 4 or better (Math Studies and Math Applications and Interpretations SL are not accepted), at an estimated 27 points; the US route needs 14 or more college-preparatory courses including four English (C+ or better in senior English), four maths, two sciences, three social studies, one language and one further language or fine arts, at an estimated 3.20 unweighted GPA, and SAT 1250 or ACT 26 are optional (UVic codes 0989 and 5327). US-curriculum applicants with a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.50 across grades 9 to 11 can apply by 1 December for early conditional admission, then supply a grades 9-11 transcript and a list of current and planned grade-12 courses. Other international curricula require twelve years of schooling plus a senior maths course. Transfer applicants must meet the same maths requirement as direct-entry high-school applicants, or pass one of MATH 100, MATH 102, MATH 109 or MATH 120 (or an equivalent elsewhere) with at least "C+" (3.00 on UVic's 9-point scale); a certificate program is not an admission basis. All applicants must satisfy UVic's English language requirement: transcripts alone suffice after four years of full-time English-medium study in Canada, otherwise a test is needed (IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section under 20, CAEL 70, Duolingo 120, PTE Academic 65, Cambridge C1/C2 180 or four-skill MET 64).
Application Details
Start Date:September (Winter Session) entry for every applicant type; a January start is also offered to high-school graduates and post-secondary transfer applicants, but not to students still in high school. There is no Summer intake.
Application Deadline:September entry: 31 January. January entry: 30 September. Both are UVic institution-wide fixed dates and apply equally to Canadian and international applicants; UVic publishes no separate international deadline. High-school applicants who submit grades by early December can be considered for early admission. UVic states these are annual fixed dates and warns that a program can stop accepting applications at any time without notice, while some programs keep accepting them past the published date.
